Put numbers to the coverage you have in mind.

Most security conversations in Palo Alto start with a budget question nobody can answer yet. A facilities lead knows the lobby needs someone from opening to close, or that the garage has been a problem after midnight, but has no idea what that costs for a month. This calculator closes that gap in about a minute.

Choose an officer post or mobile patrol, fill in your schedule and read the monthly range underneath. Change a number and the range moves with it, so you can set a weekday desk beside a seven-day post, or two patrol visits a night beside four, and see the difference before anyone visits the property.

The three numbers behind a post.

An officer estimate is built from three inputs. Officers on duty is how many people stand a post at the same moment: one at a reception desk, or two when a front entrance and a loading area both need watching. Hours a day is how long each post is staffed. Days a week is how often the schedule repeats.

The calculator turns those into officer-hours for a month and prices them across our Palo Alto hourly range. Every hour carries the same weight, so a twelve-hour overnight post counts exactly like a twelve-hour day shift. The written quote is where the real shift pattern, holidays included, is priced.

If the hours themselves are the open question, start with our coverage hours planner. It maps a normal week at the property, shows which windows carry the exposure, and gives you a schedule worth entering here.

When the officer needs a vehicle.

A lobby, a front desk or a single gatehouse can be covered on foot. Larger sites cannot. A research and tech campus spread across several buildings, a residential complex with separate garages, or a perimeter fence too long to walk in a reasonable round all call for an officer who drives between checkpoints during the shift.

Tick the vehicle box for posts like those and the calculator adds the vehicle to every hour of the estimate. Leave it clear for a compact building the officer can walk end to end. During the walkthrough we confirm which applies, because the answer usually becomes obvious once the route is drawn.

Pricing patrol by the minute.

Mobile patrol is priced by the time an officer spends on your property, not by a flat charge per stop. The patrol side of the calculator asks for visits each night, minutes each visit and nights each week, with a five-minute minimum on each stop.

A quick lock and gate check sits near that floor. A route that walks a parking structure, tries every door on a long building and circles the loading yard needs more minutes per stop. Visit times are varied from night to night, and each visit is time-stamped in the patrol log, with photos attached whenever the officer finds something.

Patrol suits property that empties after hours: offices once the staff leave, shops after closing, campus buildings over a weekend. A posted officer suits places where people need someone present all shift. Our guide to patrol versus a posted officer lays out the choice, and a daytime post can share the week with overnight patrol visits.

What moves the written quote.

The calculator works only from hours, visits and the vehicle box. A quote also takes in the property itself, and these details shift it most:

  • What the officer does at the post: reception, visitor and vendor registration, interior rounds or dock control, all written into the post orders
  • Whether the post calls for an armed officer rather than an unarmed one
  • The size of the site, the number of entries and any history of trespass or break-ins
  • Round-the-clock coverage, holidays and planned shutdowns
  • Posts running side by side at the same hours
  • How you want shift and incident reports delivered

The estimate here is for unarmed officers, the right fit for most offices, campuses and residential buildings. Where closing hours or a specific threat justify it, armed officers are priced in the written quote. One-off needs sit outside a monthly figure: a launch evening is booked as event security, and an impaired sprinkler or alarm system brings in fire watch.

From an estimate to a firm rate.

Treat the range as a planning figure. The firm rate follows a free walkthrough, where we look at the entrances, lots and quiet hours behind your numbers and agree which posts or patrol visits cover them. Our security walkthrough checklist helps you arrive with the right questions.

When the estimate looks right, press the send button beneath your result and your officers, hours and visits travel into a quote request. You receive a written quote, and coverage runs month to month, so the plan can grow, shrink or move to different hours once the shift reports show where officers are busiest.

A few useful answers

Common questions

Do overnight or weekend hours raise the estimate?

The calculator weighs every officer-hour equally, whatever the time or day. Your written quote is built on the actual shift pattern, so late nights, weekends and holidays are priced there.

What decides the length of a patrol stop in the estimate?

Think about what the officer has to see. A gate and lock check is short; a stop that walks a garage, the doors and the loading area takes longer. Whatever you enter, each stop is billed at a minimum of five minutes.

Can we price an armed officer with the calculator?

The calculator covers unarmed posts and patrol. Armed coverage is priced in the written quote after the walkthrough, once the post and the threat are clear.

Is the calculator figure what we will pay?

It is a planning range. The rate you pay is set in a written quote after a free walkthrough of the property.

What happens when we send the estimate?

Your numbers arrive with the quote request, so we start from your plan. We set up the walkthrough, confirm the posts or visits and send a written quote.
